POSTZON

Introduction

POSTZON is the Royal Mail file listing the full postcode, grid reference, local authority ward codes and NHS district health authority codes for each of the ca1.7 million geographic postcodes in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The POSTZON file can be used to geo-code postcoded addresses (see the section on PAF) and to map clients or other postcoded data (eg auto dealerships) in Geographical Information Systems. Several extracts from POSTZON are available for import into GISs.

Prices are in UK Sterling and refer to single-user licensing on a personal computer.

Postcode reference file

The most compact of the three extracts contains the names of all 1.7 million UK postcodes, a non- geographic identifier and the grid references of all geographic postcodes. Use this file to geocode (grid reference) other postcoded data sets such as customer or client records.

Postcode delivery points file

In addition to the fields included in the postcode reference and POSTZON files the full UK postcode delivery points file gives the number of residential, non-residential and large-user delivery points (addresses) in each of the 1.7 million UK postcodes. This data set can be used to estimate the number of private households (residential addresses) or businesses (non-residential and large-user addresses) in any part of the UK at a detailed level.

The postcode sector delivery points file provides delivery point counts at postcode sector level (see the Introduction to the UK postcode system) and can be used to target sector level door drops and so on.
