Political and health boundaries
Introduction
The United Kingdom political and health geographies are based on the
administrative datasets detailed in the page covering
1991 Wards, local authorities, counties and government standard regions.
Both the political and health boundaries are subject to occasional change. It
is important to correctly specify which revision of any particular
boundary set is required.
Prices are in UK Sterling and refer to single-user licensing on a personal computer.
Political boundaries
The United Kingdom political system operates around parliamentary constituencies, of which there were 634 (excluding Northern Ireland) at the
last election (1993).
The Boundary Commissioners have recently reported on the electoral system which will be in force at the time of the next election. When ordering
boundaries please specify whether old or new boundary sets are required.
Business Geographics parliamentary constituency boundaries
Compiled from a lookup between constituencies, wards and EDs the
Business Geographics parliamentary constituency boundaries are derived from
our Thiessen-based ward data set and have been updated in line with the
Boundary Commissioner's report.

ED91 parliamentary constituency boundaries
Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England and Wales derived from the
ED91 dataset at scales from 1:10,000 to 1:625,000. Shows the constituencies
in force at the last election.

MP-LINE 1991 parliamentary constituency boundaries
English and Welsh 1991 parliamentary constituency boundaries based on the
ED-LINE dataset. Where positional accuracy is important the 1:10,000 scale
boundaries are recommended. The Marketeer dataset is suitable for marketing
and other applications.

Health boundaries
The United Kingdom National Health Service operates using a hierarchical structure of district (DHA) and
regional (RHA) health authorities. Boundaries are available from a number of sources.
Business Geographics health boundaries
Compiled from a lookup between DHAs and wards the Business Geographics health boundaries are
derived from our Thiessen-based ward data set, detailed in the section covering
1991 administrative boundaries. This data set offers an
inexpensive mechanism for mapping UK health service boundaries but may not be appropriate
where absolute positional accuracy is required.

Optional annual updates are available at £200 pa.
ED91 health boundaries
Health authority boundaries derived from digitised ED91 boundaries available at a number of
scales. Prices listed are for 1994 boundaries, however, the data are available for previous
years (1991 and 1993) in which changes to the NHS definitions took place.
