Income and expenditure data

Introduction

Income and expenditure estimates from Business Geographics in dBASE, ASCII and other formats for use with MapInfo and a wide variety of other software. These datasets are only available to purchasers of 1991 Census data.

Prices are in UK Sterling and refer to single-user licensing on a personal computer.

Household Income

Estimated gross household income at ward or postcode sector level for all wards or postcode sectors in Great Britain (approximately 11,000 wards or 9,000 postcode sectors). Only available with the 1991 Census private household pack (£440) or above.

Consumer retail expenditure

The definitive small area local expenditure estimates. Used by leading retailers to evaluate branch performance, for site assessment and market planning. Updated annually.

Data is provided at ward or postcode sector level for all wards or postcode sectors in Great Britain, approximately 11,000 wards or 9,000 postcode sectors.

Food, drink and tobacco

Expenditure by three detailed categories:
  • Food
  • Alcoholic drink
  • Tobacco 
    • Ward or postcode sector level: £1,250

    Books, newspapers and magazines

    Expenditure by a single combined category. 
    Ward or postcode sector level:   £750

    Clothing and footwear

    Expenditure by three detailed categories:
  • Footwear
  • Men's and boy's wear
  • Women's, girl's and infant's wear 
    • Ward or postcode sector level: £1,250

    Furniture, floorcoverings and household textiles

    Expenditure by two detailed categories:
  • Furniture and floorcoverings
  • Household textiles
  • soft furnishings 
    • Ward or postcode sector level: £1,000

    Radio, electrical and other durable goods

    Expenditure by two detailed categories:
  • Domestic appliances
  • Radio, television, musical instruments and photographic equipment

    Expenditure by two detailed categories:
